ONE THING to get a perfect voiceover for Explainer Videos.
Style is an awesomely powerful word. It's subjective, thought-provoking, curious, and can spark debate in anything from music to sushi. Every creative person brings their own sense of style to a project. When I was a creative director, my style was always preaching "organic". I never wanted my team to do things "just because". I drove creativity with a style of "because this happened" approach. What made sense for a project depended on what made sense for the audience. We didn't pander to the client, or develop work on the basis of just looking or sounding cool. We did it because our style was to stay real, organic, holistic, and honest.
Does It Fit?
When I get breakdowns, or script specs, I always think "Am I right for this"? This doesn't just mean my script interpretation, but can I deliver a read to correctly fit this product or service. Did the client seek me out because I'm the right choice for their target market? Or do they think I just sound cool? Do they have a specific style in mind? What kind of style can I breath into this copy? I know when I'm the right fit for something, because I believe in it. I enjoy voicing projects that I can get behind. More importantly, when my clients know what style they want, and how they want a read; it makes everything go so smoothly! Not to mention incredibly effective for their audience!
Gotta Get The Right Voice...STYLE!
Choosing the right voice for your explainer video is just half the equation. The other half is deciding what sort of style to go for.
The awesome team over at Demo Duck (who do killer explainer videos), posted a blog about "Selecting The Right Voiceover For Your Video". They hit the nail on the head when it came to finding that perfect talent. It isn't just the talent themselves, it's also incredibly important to choose the right read STYLE.
Their video showed 3 options on how to read a simple introduction to what could be a neato explainer video. The voiceover in the video gives 3 read styles: Excited, Dramatic, and Neutral:
Are you tired of always having to wait in line?
Well wait no more.
Introducing WeWait, the app that gets people to wait in line for you.
So, I wanted to play along. Check out the 3 samples of the same script. What do you think of when you hear each one? Which one is the right one for the product?
The correct read option is...whichever one is the right one for the target audience. Taking an organic approach to selecting the right voiceover talent helps you find someone who can connect with your script. It let's them breath that style to life. Make sure the style you choose is the right one for your next explainer video. If you want an audition, or to talk about style..leave a comment below or let's chat.
