Jonathan Goldsmith, 77 year old actor, is hanging up the beard and the tan, retiring his version of the beloved Dos Equis' "The Most Interesting Man in the World".
Whether you think he is interesting or not, this lager campaign peaked the interest of beer drinkers worldwide for almost a decade.
In the past year alone, sales of Dos Equis Lager Especial grew 10.2% to $325.3 million says market research firm IRIWorldwide.
The marketers for Dos Equis are milking the last few drops of this campaign, even giving fans the opportunity to have a part of his world by entering a sweepstakes for his coveted collection. The collection includes his Highland Scottish Kilt worn during a very interesting sword fight in Scotland, and this winner's circle portrait that was completed the day before the race - the trophy seen within the painting was handed to the Most Interesting Man long before anyone knew which horse was his.
Check out more of the coveted collection. I have to confess I'll probably enter to win the super 8mm film projector where he shared his award nominated home movies!
Since the announcement of his farewell adventure to Mars debuted, just a little over a week ago, it's gotten 1.14 million hits. Suffice to say he is going out with a bang.
Goldsmith racked up a number of notable television credits, but he remained, as the New Yorker’s Nick Paumgarten put it, “‘that guy,’ very often the that guy who gets killed” on shows like “Charlie’s Angels,” “Magnum, P.I.,” “MacGyver” and “Hawaii Five-O.” Also, I'm pretty sure this is him in this video that Mandarin Oriental shot years ago.
When I stayed there while doing a show in Malaysia, this video would be playing in your room when you returned for the day. The show crew and myself were convinced that the "Most Interesting Man" was in this video.
Check it out at minute 1:14.
He's riding on a vespa. But even if it's not him, I like to think it is. Very interesting...
